Kelly – Gastric Band Success
I had lap band surgery in July of 2010. It was something I had thought about for a few years before doing. I dealt with obesity most of my adult life so I knew it was going to be a lifelong struggle. I also had two parents diagnosed with diabetes. I knew that was going to be the road I was going to be on in a very short period of time, if I didn’t make a change.
After meeting with all the staff at Flowers Bariatric Center, I began my weight loss journey and it has been by far the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.
I would do every last bit of it again for the 65 pounds that I no longer carry around with me. I have about 25 more to go but I’m not in any rush. I know it’ll come off at some point.
What Lap Band has done for me is increase my self-image. I am not afraid to get in front of the camera anymore. I’m not always the one taking the pictures. I’ve began to run which is something I would have never thought I would do and that it would even be fun for me. I have run six, 5K races and I’m getting faster every time I run. I ran one with my father last year. Of course he beat me, but that’s okay because we did it together and that is something that I will cherish forever.
Health wise, my family is healthier. I’m healthier and we’re a better family because I’m a happier person. I was a miserable fat person and I’m not that person anymore.
