Dancing for Weight Loss
Contrary to popular belief, there actually is one type of workout that is more effective than any other. Don’t worry if you don’t like running or lifting weights—the most successful workout is something that you are guaranteed to have fun with. How do we know? Because hands down, the most successful type of workout is the one that you want to go do every day.
Finding a workout that you can have fun with will make all of the difference as you focus on reaching your workout and weight loss goals.
Research has shown time and time again that the key to a successful weight loss program is engaging in new healthy behaviors that you can embrace and enjoy. This means finding ways to reduce your daily caloric intake by switching your diet to foods that you find enjoyable and satisfying, while also increasing your daily activity level with exercises that you actually look forward to.
If you haven’t found a workout that you truly enjoy yet, then it may be time to give a dance aerobics class a try. Dance classes are an excellent alternative to some of the more traditional workout programs because they combine upbeat music and a fun atmosphere with fast movement and coordinated aerobics techniques to help maximize calorie burning without making your workout feel like a chore.
Dance workout classes are a great workout for losing weight, too. In just one hour of a Zumba class it is possible to burn anywhere between 300 and 900 calories, depending on the intensity that you bring to the workout. This is not too much different from the level of caloric burn that you can attain during a standard spin class or a kick boxing class, but during Zumba all you have to do is follow along and dance. Doing Zumba just two or three times a week is a great way to make significant progress towards your weight loss goals.
There are all sorts of different types of dance classes out there to help you with your weight loss goals, including:
- Line dancing
In addition to helping you to burn calories, which supports your weight loss goals, dance classes are also a great way to de-stress and connect with friends while you are focusing on your weight loss journey. Of course, before starting any new workout program following weight loss surgery, it is important to check in with your weight loss surgeon.
